Storing Christmas Decorations

 Tree Storage

There is no better time to get ready for the next holiday season than when it's time to take down your Christmas tree.  As you prepare your Christmas tree for storage, take some extra time to systematically inspect your tree for burned out light bulbs, damaged wiring, or broken connectors.  Leave the lights turned on as you begin removing the top section of the tree and check the lights.  Doing this could save you considerable time putting your tree back up and getting ready next season. Do this for each section of the tree.

Once all the lights have been checked and the branches compressed you are ready to store your tree.  Although your original boxes may work for the first year or two if properly taped, we suggest you store your tree in storage bags. Storage bags will protect your tree from dirt, moisture, and will help maintain the structural integrity of the tree. One bag will generally suffice for full trees up to seven feet and slender trees up to nine feet. Tree bags will protect your investment by insuring the branches from get bent and deformed. It will also help in protecting the lights on the tree. We recommend not stacking anything on top of your storage bag and the storage bag be placed on a flat surface. The storage bag should also be placed in a cool and dry location where the temperature will remain relatively constant. Christmas Lights Etc. also sells storage bags to safely store your wreaths and garland.

Light Storage

We recommend storing your loose light string on spools. Carefully wrap each spool to prevent damage from other items that may come in contact with the light spools.  Light strings should not be stacked on top of one another or have other items stacked upon them.  You will have an easier time next season installing your lights without the hassle of untangling a conglomeration of light strings.  Lights should also be protected and stored in the same manner as your Christmas tree.
