Wrapping Lights Around Palm Trees
Wrapping Palm Trunks with Lights: wrapping Christmas lights around the trunk of a palm tree is similar to the way you would wrap any other trees. Before getting started, we recommned reading our complete guide on wrapping trees with Christmas lights, but we've also provided some quick step by step instructions below:
- Buy pre-balled LED light sets or wind your lights into a ball shape. This insider tip from the pros makes wrapping trees so much easier!
- Begin at the base of the palm tree trunk and start winding lights around as close together or far apart as you'd like.
- Keep your lights tight as you wind up the tree. If the strands start to get loose, tuck the light ball under the light wrap every few feet and pull tightly to help create extra grip. Some guides will suggest stapling your lights to the tree; we do not recommend this method.
- When you get to the top, tuck the end plug underneath the light wrap to secure it. If you have gaps between your wraps and want more dense light coverage, you can wrap back down the trunk with any extra light strings you have.
Lighting Palm Tree Fronds: Decorating the fronds can be a little tricky but it does add some serious wow factor to a landscape. The most common way to light fronds is to run a string of lights directly down the center of the frond and use twist ties or zip ties to secure it every few inches. Lighting the fronds closest to the trunk is all you'll need to create an impactful display. If you want the entire canopy lit or if your fronds are very tall & wide, we recommend hiring a professional light installer to help make sure your palm tree lights are installed safely.
Lighted Palm Tree Decorations
If wrapping real palm trees isn't an option for you, there are still plenty of fun ways to invite the tropics into your holidays or year round home decor! Faux palm trees with lights and rope light palms are two very distinct designs with indoor and outdoor decorating appeal. The gentle sway of curved palm trees with warm white fairy lights accenting the trunk and green LEDs sprinkled throughout the fronds creates an attractive display for indoor decorating. Curved palm trees can also be taken outdoors for temporary use during parties and events as long as they're protected from moisture and rain. Rope light palm trees with holographic fronds can be used outdoors with no cover required. They're incredibly popular as party decorations and add a lively atmosphere to tiki bars or themed game rooms.
